Kay Francis Photo Gallery: Brassavola digbyana

Current nomenclature: Rhyncholaelia digbyana

Kay had the cultivar 'Mrs. Chase'. The earliest record we have found for this cultivar was on the occasion of its AM/AOS award at Long Beach monthly judging, April 27, 1970, exhibited by Dr. A. G. Tharp, who served as SCOS President in 1972 and 1973, and who helped shape generations of AOS judges. However, as Kay already had this cultivar in 1969, it must have been circulating somewhat earlier. The identity of Mrs. Chase is unknown. At some point, Kay was interested in obtaining a cultivar or variety she called "albino" from Frank Fordyce (KF VII / B / 2 / c, undated) — she crossed out this entry, adding the notation "Falk". This might indicate that she had learned Arthur Falk (also a prominent SCOS member) had this plant, which seems otherwise unknown.
