Kay Francis Photo Gallery: Cattleya guttata alba

Current nomenclature: Apparently still regarded as a form of the true C. guttata

The discovery of an alba form among a shipment of C. guttata collected in the wild caused a sensation; even more so when the plant was selfed, producing a group of excellent alba seedlings. Kay obtained a division from Emerson "Doc" Charles in May, 1960. She gave a division of this plant ("extra fine") fo Gloria Eckles (Landamar Orchids) May 8, 1967. She obtained a division of the original plant (C. guttata alba 'Bracey') from "Sarah" July 10, 1979, and this is one reason we suspect "Sarah" may have worked at Bracey's nursery. Because of this latter acquisition, we think the unlabeled photos from 1979 included in this gallery really are guttata alba, and not an alba seedling of C. Leafwood Lane. These two forms could be very difficult to distinguish from one another.
