Kay Francis Photo Gallery: Cattleya Portia coerulea
Parentage: C. bowringiana × C. labiata
Current nomenclature: Cattlianthe Portia
Kay clearly favored her "blue" Portias, and she used them extensively in her crosses. She obtained the cultivar 'Mrs. Carl Holmes' October 20, 1958 from Hans Gubler. She obtained another cultivar, 'Blue Hawaii', from Oscar Kirsch May 17, 1960 as a two-bulb division. She also had a cultivar 'Thielst' (AM/AOS October 9, 1963, Miami monthly judging, exhibited by Galaxy Gardens, Atlanta, GA), a division of which she may have intended to send to Jerry Kulaja, but a later list shows she actually sent two divisions of 'Mrs. Carl Holmes' and two of 'Blue Hawaii' on May 17, 1967.
