Lowara Spitfire ? , February, 1973. The flower bears a striking resemblance to Lowara Spitfire 'Red Hot' HCC/AOS, exhibited by Norito Hasegawa at Los Angeles Monthly Judging on June 9, 1975, apparently the first of this grex to be awarded. Other cultivars (awards in 1978 and 1985) had a much more rounded lip. Lowara is Brassavola × Laelia × Sophronitis; today the hybrid would be considered a Rhyncholaeliocattleya. Spitfire was registered in 1960 by Fred A. Stewart, Inc. More research in Stewart's catalogues would be helpful regarding the identify of Kay's plant. The lip, overall form, and color seem consistent with Spitfire, and no similar hybrids have come to our attention.
