Kay had trouble spelling Bonanza, frequently rendering it Bonzano etc. Like many growers in the 1950's and '60's, she found an unnamed seedling that turned out very well! The photo of cultivar 'Vesuvius' could well be someone else's plant that was exhibited at a show, orchid club meeting, or nursery, but she obtained a division of this cultivar April 10, 1967 from Gloria Eckles (Landamar Orchids). From the coincidence of the dates, the photo may in fact be the plant that she purchased, on display at Landamar Orchids.
