Kay Francis Photo Gallery: Lc. Maria Ozzella
Parentage: Lc. Lee Langford × C. Nigrella
Current nomenclature: Cattleya Maria Ozzella
Kay had two forms of this hybrid, one yellow or orange, the other the better-known red cultivar 'Black Magic'. The yellow form is likely the one she obtained from Joe Ozzella in 1956, the parentage described as "Lc. Lee Langford x Negrella (yellow) 193", the number presumably Ozzella's cross number. This plant had not yet bloomed when she purchased it, and produced two "excellent" flowers on February 1, 1958. This is apparently the cultivar she called 'Linda Vista'. Her source for the 'Black Magic' cultivar is not contained in her notes; it was first awarded HCC/AOS on September 14, 1964 at Hollywood monthly judging when exhibited by Murray Spencer of West Covina, CA, another of the very productive amateur orchid breeders of Southern California.
