Kay obtained "Lc. Parysatis var. coerulea (C. bowringiana lilacina x L. praestans var. Gatton, dark)" from Stewart's, probably in 1960. Laelia (now Cattleya) praestans seems always to have been regarded as distinct from Laelia (Cattleya) pumila, and there is no registered hybrid of bowringiana × praestans. Further research in the Stewart's catalogs and other records might clarify the status of this plant, whether Kay made an error in recording the parentage, or the nursery labeled the plant incorrectly, or Stewart's actually made the indicated hybrid that was never properly registered.
