Among the miscellanea in the Kay Francis archive is a pot label, one side reading "Brandywine 'Wise' AM/AOS from Jerry K / 12/4/79", the other "C. Ruth Johnson 'Big Suprise' AM 4/4/77 K". The "K" here is likely Kay's signature, and the Jerry in question is likely Jerry Rehfield. Slc. Brandywine 'Wise' received AM/AOS on Februery 26, 1977 at Long Beach monthly judging, when exhibited by Edwin Wise of Yorba Linda, CA. Otherwise, there is no indication in Kay's notes of which cultivar she might have had in 1968, or where it came from.
